See Kamikaze Squirrels, part one.
Another squirrel is gone. Saw him yesterday ( I know it’s a him because only males would play stupid, barbaric games– and that’s not a slight against the female persuasion but a compliment) lying next to the curve. He wasn’t squashed like his comrade on Thursday. No, he was quite rounded, which leads me to believe that either he was tagged by a car bumper just hard enough to cause death or that he just barely made it across the street and died from the adrenaline rush. Either way, there is one less Southside Kamikaze Squirrel Posse (or SoKamSquiPos).
Like many other gangs and most guerilla movements, they’ve hidden their numbers so no one knows just how many are left, but they’re still playing the game. Shortly before my discovery of the body yesterday, one of the gang members shot out from under a car and quickly turned around. Wisely, I might add, because there was no place for me to go other than over his furry little body.
I think we need to step up efforts to curtail these random acts of stupidity/suicide. Car-assisted suicides are now the number one killer of squirrels aside from nut allergies and falling out of a tree.
The madness has got to stop! Think of the little squirrels. Do we really want them growing up thinking this is the way their life has to be? I think not.
Take a stand. Start a Squirrel rehabilitation center in your area. Let them know that we care, and that there is more to life than silly little game.s

I’m glad someone is finally willing to talk about this problem.
I’ve seen entirely too many squirrels die needlessly like this.:)

Have you visited http://www.sugarbushsquirrel.com/? I believe I saw a Ninja Squirrel there. No Kamikazes, though.
