So today I took Bear up to the Zoo in Syracuse, as I needed something to do with him, and the thought of taking him to the inevitably-packed ScienCenter still makes me shudder. *shudder* See?
It was a bit of a drag– I mean, I knew it was going to be colder today than the previous two days (today was 46, last two days in the 80’s), but it was a tad more brisk than I would’ve liked. Fortunately, I dressed the Bear warmly and we enjoyed ourselves. AND, it wasn’t crowded. That’s a win. AND, we got to see all the animals. *BIG WIN*. See, whenever you go to the zoo, it’s inevitable that you’ll never see creatures like the wolves because they’re hiding because typically on zoo visitation days it’s hot out, and the last thing they want to do is lie in the sun.
But there they were, in all their glory, basking in the greyness of an early afternoon overcast day. And the tigers were lying about in plain view, and the elephants as well.
Some animals weren’t as appreciative of the cold as I would have thought– the big deer they have from the himalayas –while out (rare), were just lounging in the corner by the walkway (RARER). I don’t know if I expected them to be dancing or what– frolicking in the vast field in all their glory because this is *their* weather. Yes, I do sometimes have delusions of grandeur. And as you can see, I don’t just save them for myself!
The snow leopard was not to be found. No where! I mean really. Of all the animals, I figured the snow leopards would be doing backflips! But no. They were missing, presumably hiding (or more likely, still in a climate controlled pen for the winter).
Even the penguins didn’t seem to be enjoying themselves, all milling about on the land portion of their enclosure, seemingly daring each other to go in the water. At one point, as we were walking away, we heard a splash and saw one thrashing about in the water, only to be out when we got back there. I’m not convinced he wasn’t pushed in.
So we finished our trip to the zoo, and decided that it was still early, why not head over to the wonderfully multileveled Syracuse mall. Little did I know the things I would see would change me forever. Okay, not really, but they did make me chuckle. Lots.
And that, will be in my next post. Right now, I need sleep. Good night, SGEPDicks!
