We interrupt this apparent abandonment to bring you the following important announcement, or Woody; the Story of the the Horny, Potentially Short-Bus Special Woodpecker

Breaking news.

Our house is under siege! Let me back up.

Several weeks ago, I was awakened in the wee hours in the morning by a noise. A tap tap tap noise. At first, I grumbled and and mumbled something about filicide. But then it happened again. and it was rhythmic, not random. Hmm. Now I started thinking about homicide, what neighbor starts hammering things at five in the morning?

Fell back to sleep, and awoke when it was time to get the middle one to school. Thought nothing more about it.

The next day, it happened again. This time, I could tell, it was something to do with the house. Of course, my first thought was woodpecker. Makes sense, we’re in a old, two story wood framed house. So I got the boy ready for school, and when I took him out, I took a peek around the side of the house that it sounded like it was coming from. And sure enough, it was a woodpecker. And it tapped as I watched. And I was dumbstruck. Because of this ginormous two story wooden house, the woodpecker was tapping on the metal cap of the chimney. um, WTF? I immediately thought that we have the world’s dumbest woodpecker– we’re talking short-bus special.

So I tweeted about it. Then did a little bit of research. And it turns out, in the spring, woodpeckers will tap on metal objects to attract a mate, because the metal is louder (of course).

Great, so, it’s still undetermined as to whether the woodpecker is a short-bus rider, but one thing is for certain, he’s definitely a lonely/horny bird.

This has been going on for better than two weeks. I’m starting to wake up in the morning, and expecting to here NEVERMORE!

Here’s a a few pics of the horn-dog.

Okay. I promise, part 2 of my trip to the Zoo/Syracuse mall is coming VERY soon. I’m very near completion with school stuff.
